Tell us about the history of your company:
Empire Scientific, with manufacturing headquarters in Deer Park, NY, has a proud 60 year tradition in the consumer electronics industry. In its colorful past, we started in the late 50's as Dyna-Empire Inc, and was known worldwide for producing high quality turntables, cartridges, and high fidelity loudspeakers, recognized by audiophiles for their outstanding performance.
As the audio technology transformed to tape versus vinyl, the phonograph industry all but disappeared. The family sold the business, however they kept the name as they had the foresight that camera and camcorder batteries would be a good replacement for the phonograph business. T.A.E (Trans Atlantic Electronics Inc, DBA Empire Scientific) was founded in 1978. Empire Scientific now manufactures and distributes replacement batteries for consumer/industrial electronics. Our products include mostly aftermarket replacement batteries and some proprietary batteries and chargers. We also do a tremendous amount of private labeling.

How do your products differ from your competitors?
Quality is the #1 difference. Many of our customers require quality versus price and have the ability to test a batteries capability and quality. These customers regularly test our product to see that our products meet their specifications; consequently we only use high grade cells in our battery packs.
With the influx of the internet, there is a tremendous amount of cheap priced low quality batteries. The issue is the typical consumer will not know the quality of the battery until it has been in service for a few times / cycles and even then it may take a few months to determine its quality.
Do you have any advice for online retailers that want to sell your products?
The number one myth about selling online, is that you have to be the cheapest price to sell on eBay or Amazon. We have many online resellers that are very successful and it is truly due to marketing strategies. You do no have a customer to talk to and explain why they should buy from you, so you must be creative and not afraid to experiment with wording and other market places. The battery industry is constantly growing and changing and we change with it. We are constantly adding new products with verified consumer needs resulting in immediate sales potential.
What do you feel are the advantages of selling products online?
The internet has opened the door for virtually anyone to succeed in online sales. Like any business, the more you put into it, the more you will get out of it. The old cliche of build it and they will come DOES NOT apply to websites and internet sales. A person must understand how the internet, search engines and shopping sites work and then constantly adjust their listings accordingly. Since batteries can be shipped via UPS, USPS & FedEx, they are the ideal products to sell online and with our Blind Drop Ship program, the seller has virtually no investment in the inventory.
