 Show Date: 6/27/2006
Segment 4 – Open Phones and Jason Miner of PayPal

Griff: Welcome Jason.

Jason: Thank you Griff.

Griff: And he’s here to answer any PayPal questions that may pop up. And if no PayPal questions pop up, then he’ll be here to provide his dry, droll, sort of wit.

Jason: There you go. It’s good practice for me.

Griff: So we had Doug earlier who answered half of the trivia question. If you know the other half and you can repeat the first half, then you’ll win the price which is the new eBay Radio eBay Live 2006 buttons. The trivia question was recently eBay reached two milestones in the number of registered users and the number of cars sold. What were the milestones for each? If you know the answer give us a call at 877-474-3302. Susie in New York City, welcome to eBay Radio. What’s your question?

Caller: The website address of Mr. O’Brien that you mentioned on the radio, I didn’t jot it down.

Griff: It’s KeepMore.net.

Caller: Okay. And my question is when you come to New York for training it’s scheduled for three days. What is doing to be happening?

Griff: We don’t know yet.

Caller: Oh, okay.

Griff: As soon as we have that nailed down, the Education and Events team are working on it, it will be posted up on the website for eBay University and you’ll see what the three days are.

Caller: Okay, thank you so much and have a lovely day.

Griff: You’re welcome. Thanks Susie. We’ve had questions about that and actually, Lee, there’s a question coming in about KeepMore.net. Somebody said there was a special for 50% off for the year and I remember J.P. mentioning that, but how does one qualify for that?

Lee: Good point. I’m going to find out right now, so talk amongst yourselves.

Griff: Alright. Our number here is 877-474-3302. And we have Jason Miner with us from PayPal. So if you’ve got a question about PayPal this is your opportunity to ask it and actually get a legitimate accurate answer for a change as opposed to the dribble that I tend to give.

Jason: (Laughter) Are you spreading misinformation while I’m away, Griff?

Griff: Sometimes when you bloviate like I do, you get it wrong.

Lee: Is that allowed in our state?

Griff: Yeah, it is, between consenting adults.

Lee: Okay, got it.

Griff: Jason, is this an important week for you coming up?

Jason: It is, yes.

Griff: Can you tell us why?

Jason: Well, July 11th is when we launch PayPal Radio immediately following your time slot, so I have a fantastic lead-in. It’s 2-3 pacific.

Lee: We’re very excited.

Jason: We actually launched at eBay Live and I had the lovely Lee assisting me there as well which helped a great deal.

Griff: Yeah, isn’t she great?

Jason: She is fantastic. She is a very hard-edged interviewer, though.

Griff: Of course she is.

Jason: She doesn’t lob the soft balls when she interviews.

Griff: That’s right. You have to watch out.

Jason: I did.

Griff: It’s like 60 Minutes.

Lee: (Laughter) No it’s not.

Jason: It is. I think I barely acquitted myself during the interview.

Lee: No, no, no.

Jason: She has photos, so it’s kind of tough.

Lee: (Laughter).

Griff: But you know, that’s not the only thing I meant. I mean, I know it is about you and it is about PayPal Radio. But what else is happening right now, I’ll give you a hint, in the world of pop culture, that you find interesting?

Jason: Oh yes. Yeah, we have a little movie coming out.

Griff: Oh, it was like pulling teeth.

Jason: Superman is from Iowa, too. He’s right next door.

Griff: Right next door to Omaha.

Jason: Yes.

Griff: He lived in Iowa.

Jason: Well, the actor, not the actual Superman. He would be from Kansas, of course.

Griff: No.

Jason: Well, Krypton.

Griff: Thank you.

Jason: Well I didn’t know where you were going.

Griff: So you going to go see it?

Jason: Yes, I will be seeing that.

Griff: A caller, Jo from Louisville, Kentucky. Welcome Jo, what’s your question?

Caller: Hi. I had an idea for something added to My eBay and I wanted to know how to get that idea to eBay.

Griff: Well you can tell us here.

Caller: Okay. What I wanted to know is in My eBay they have the little icons for like checkout, pay, ship. Would it be possible to get a little icon for delivered?

Griff: Hmm, possibly. The difficulty there would be, like for the payment status icon, if you don’t use PayPal you have to manually, and you can, change the status to paid.

Caller: Right.

Griff: So yeah, I think an item indication for item delivered, it will have to be set manually that’s possible, yeah. Send that to me in an email at griff@ebay.com and I’ll forward it on to Lee Goldstein.

Lee: It’s a good idea.

Griff: Yeah. Got any other questions?

Caller: Well, I had an issue with PayPal, but I don’t know if…

Griff: Well that’s why he’s here.

Caller: Okay.

Griff: Talk to Jason.

Caller: I just have a little complaint. I’ve used eBay for about six years and I’ve used PayPal religiously and I absolutely love PayPal, but the problem I’m having is I’ve had two people give complaints against me because when they got the item, they were both out of the country, it wasn’t what they thought it was. Well, in my ad I stated that it was sold as is with no guarantee because it was broken, it was a camera. Well, we had to go through the process where he complained to eBay and I have to give my side of the story. So the person I had talked to at PayPal said they really like to protect the buyer most of the time and I thought it was kind of unfair because in my ad it said that the camera was broken and this gentleman wanted me to pay to have the camera fixed.

Jason: Yeah, I don’t necessarily agree that PayPal is exclusively or intentionally favoring buyers. It’s certainly why we go to the seller and ask for the other side of the story in those cases. And there is the buyer protection on eBay which allows buyers to feel reassured if a seller has reached a certain feedback threshold of 50 feedback that are at least 98% positive. But again, as you’ve mentioned, we do take pains to make sure we hear both sides of the story. I’m going to give you my email address, which is PayPalJason@eBay.com and if you could forward me the item numbers, Jo, and I will take a look at this in more detail offline.

Caller: Okay. The thing is, it’s been settled, they ruled in my favor in the end. But the person I talked to at PayPal said that even though I had an as is with no guarantee in my ad, they still have to protect the buyer.

Jason: There is if you meet the criteria for buyer protection. This actually is a feature that can be attractive or reassuring to buyers.

Griff: We’re just about out of time. Thanks Jo. Jason, thanks for joining us.

Jason: Thank you.

Griff: Good luck with your new radio show. This segment has been brought to you by NoMoreWebMasters.com, the name says it all.
