Entrepreneur.com, the popular web site for entrepreneurs and small business owners, re-launched this past Labor Day weekend, with new upgrades and features designed to give users an improved overall experience. Already well-known for their extensive free content (over 200,000 pages) covering every aspect of starting and running a business, their continually growing user-base necessitated some serious system updates.
Better Things Ahead The folks at Entrepreneur upgraded their content management system and added new hardware to support their redesigned site. Says Senior VP, Chuck Fuller, "We're deploying faster processors, more disk space, and faster disk IO to service the amount of traffic coming into the site." Numerous improvements and modifications make the site even more user-friendly:
- The content can be exported in forms not previously available, most notably as RSS feeds. You can now get content updates, not only through the web site directly, but also through blogs or even on your own web site.
- The page width has been expanded to match the resolution at which 85% of viewers currently see the site, 1024x768; but it's resizable, so you can set it to suit your preferences.
- The navigation is laid out to be more consistent and expandable, allowing you to drill down into the site easier, and find particular topics more quickly.
- The free tools and resources have greater visibility, such as their downloadable forms, list management services, and small business encyclopedia.
- The e-business channel has been expanded and eBay Central is now at the forefront in that channel. EBay Central includes a new 30-page PDF Guide to Doing Business Online, a calendar of events, and a glossary of eBay seller terms (acronyms, icon meanings, etc.)
- Brand new channels have been added, such as the advertising channel, designed to educate viewers on the many forms of promoting their businesses, both on and off line, and the HR channel.
- There are new and updated easily-accessible areas of information, called "hubs," such as Tools and Services (which includes new features), Franchises, and Growing Your Business.
- Together with AT&T, Entrepreneur.com has launched an Internet solutions center that covers every aspect of taking your business online, from marketing your products and services to managing your business.
- There are both new and better search features.
- There are new online presentations, which now include audio content.
- The site’s builders are currently working to add video, for educational purposes.
Now, more than ever, Entrepreneur.com puts the tools at your fingertips to help you succeed in your own business endeavors. Explains Fuller, "We try to make a lot of information available to entrepreneurs of any size, and at any point in their operation, so they can find solutions to problems they're currently encountering." If you haven't discovered what a tremendous resource this web site is for your own E-Biz, it's high-time you checked it out.
